You’ve painstakingly gone through piles of paint samples and finally got your colors down. Now, one last decision…what sheen to choose! Here are the descriptions, pros and cons.
Flat: Flat paint offers a matte finish. Flat paint is great because it hides imperfections very well. It also has a soft diffused look on the walls. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to clean, so if you have children or pets, it might not be the best choice. It is best used in low traffic areas or ceilings.
Satin and eggshell: Eggshell and satin used to be two different things but they are pretty much grouped together these days, because their finish is so similar. Satin and eggshell are popular for walls because they have a slight shine that can be brightening. They are also are easy to clean. They offer a more subtle look than semi-gloss and gloss paints.
Semi-gloss and gloss: Both semi-gloss and gloss sheens are quite shiny, which makes them reflective and very washable. They are out often used for trim, kitchen cabinets and some bathroom areas.
